Critical infrastructure measurement and control systems in North America must comply with stringent North American Electric Reliability Corporation critical infrastructure protection (NERC-CIP) encryption protocols, a set of requirements for asset security in bulk electric system operations, in order to limit their vulnerability to cyber attack and physical tampering. The Directed Sensing platform was built with these requirements specifically in mind, so offers maximum security when integrating remote sensor measurements into management and intelligence systems. Our platform complements traditional control systems, but does not affect control mechanisms, so does not increase operational vulnerability.
Using encryption protocols that exceed NERC-CIP requirements, the Directed Sensing platform maintains system security throughout every step of the process, from connecting remote devices to a network to transmitting data and making it available either for an existing data warehouse or through our customizable user interface.
After a storm or catastrophic event, minutes and seconds matter. Arm the control center with information regarding what type of crew and equipment the problem requires by sending a UAS or UGV equipped with cutting-edge sensor and video technology to evaluate
Repair crews in the field become more quick and efficient with more information. Once they localize the area of a problem, they can roll out to the closest substation and deploy a UAS to check the lines and equipment to provide more precise and complete information on what repairs they need to make.
One of the challenges of relying on solar arrays for consumer and commercial energy needs is the unpredictable nature of energy output due to intermittent cloud cover. The Directed Sensing platform can deploy a series of light/irradiance sensors around the area and warn controllers of imminent cloud cover so they can more efficiently load balance.
Deteriorating equipment displays specific warning signs like increased vibration rate, temperature, off-gassing, coronal energy, and electromagnetic fields. The Directed Sensing sensors will alert you when these warning signs begin, enabling you to perform maintenance before compromises to efficiency or uptime occur.
Empower emergency crews to locate and precisely diagnose issues on-the-go with mobile sensors: UASes or UGVs equipped with cutting-edge sensor and video technology to locate and quantify issues.
Equip a mobile sensor pack with relevant sensors (oil, chemicals, gas, air quality, etc.) to locate areas of contamination for attention.
Take control of your operational security like never before by visualizing sensor data. Display thermal signatures, infrared and a variety of gases and chemicals, and detect motion, cellular signals (identifies carrier) and unique drone IDs.
Simplify equipment inventory by tagging each item with a unique RFID chip, and sending out a mobile device to catalog each signal.
Precise measurements on line health and efficiency—through temperature, vibration, electromagnetic fields, coronal energy, etc—and their trends over time increase uptime and enable line and equipment health maintenance (fixing things when their efficiency begins to deteriorate) as opposed to scheduled or break/fail maintenance.
Some environmental conditions pose significant threats to personnel and property, and require monitoring of things like air quality, ambient gas levels, corrosion and radiation. The Directed Sensing platform maintains constant awareness of these conditions, and sends alerts when conditions reach the point of posing a threat to personnel and property.
Increase yield and decrease equipment downtime by analyzing the exact physical environmental conditions and location in contrast to their efficiency.
